Im Schatten des Sakurajima, einem der aktivsten Vulkane Japans, lebt auf einer kleinen vorgelagerten Insel eine besondere Gruppe von Makaken. Die Affen sind dafür bekannt, dass sie bei Ebbe Muscheln und andere Meeresfrüchte von den Felsen sammeln, um sich davon zu ernähren.
