Shining a light on the world of the urban theater and revealing the show behind the show, producer and director JD Lawrence mounts his new production of the stage play Your Husband Is Cheating On Us, implementing unorthodox creative methods with his cast.
Bravo has teamed up with mega producer and playwright JD Lawrence (The Clean Up Woman, Community Service, Rumors, Me & Mrs Jones, Cain and Able) to bring the urban Theatre genre mainstream. JD Lawrence like Tyler Perry has taken the Chitlin Circuit by storm playing multiple charters. Lawrence also like Tyler is now expanding his brand to television and film. Your Husband Is Cheating On Us premiered Sunday between the real housewives franchise Almost reaching a million viewers and earning a spot on the top 25 original cable programs. Let me be the first to welcome JD Lawrence to the realty show franchise world Cha Ching! So here’s what all the buzz is about Director JD Lawrence and his colorful cast didn’t waste one minute of airtime. The drama unfolded immediately from baby mamas throwing shade, to hook ups to his daughters going toe to toe with the cast. Let’s just say it was pipping hot tea. The episode was perfectly entitled The Circuit and JD not only gave us Backstage drama but he also dropped some nuggets and history about the Chitlin Circuit that I found informative. In the show JD gives you a transparent behind the scenes look at how he mounts a national stageplay step by step. By his side are his two beautiful daughters Breanna Lawrence and Taylour Lawrence who like their father, don’t take no crap. They lay the ground rules down as to who’s running the ship. The cast consist of R&B star Ginuwine YES that Ginuwine and ladies he bought his pony, it also features the urban theatre veteran and self proclaimed queen of urban theatre D’atra Hicks who’s been featured in a lot of Tyler Perry’s plays but is most noted for her humming in a divorce court episode, Lia Grant who shares a baby daddy with D’atra (Yep you read it correctly) Lia is known for her role in My Brother Marvin as well as JD Lawrence’s “If You Don’t Stand For Something You’ll Fall For Anything. Understudying for Ginuwine is Jermaine Sellers a former contestant on American Idol and Sunday best. Understudying the ladies is Kristin Plati a white girl from Austrailia (ok JD didn’t see that coming) and Tondy Gallant who was kicked off of making the band by Diddy I guess I missed that episode (no shade) However this round off the shows colorful cast of characters. The show trended on Twitter at #3 which didn’t surprise me at all considering all the drama and tea JD was throwing at us. It was a breathe of fresh air seeing a Blackman running a multi-million dollar business with his daughters by his side Vanderpump May rule but JD Lawrence rules the Urban Theatre Circuit. Episode two is entitled The Showdown and just from the previews we see the oldest daughter is her fathers child. Breanna Lawrence gets her Ne Ne on as she gives one of the actors the business at no expense. I think she’s going to be my favorite I’m just saying. Hopefully there’s a sound track or something asking for a friend. The show is now on demand and on Bravotv.com for more information on other JD Lawrence shows and merchandise download JD’s mobile app http://JDLawrence.mobapp.at
