Jacob Alcala (b. 2001) is a Filipino filmmaker and cinematographer based in Vancouver, Canada. Raised in the Philippines and the UAE, his perspective was further shaped in the Netherlands, where he graduated cum laude in Audiovisual Design with a minor in Cultural Diversity from the Willem de Kooning Academy. His work delves into themes of identity, belonging, and adolescence, deeply rooted in his upbringing and experiences as a second-generation Filipino immigrant. His debut short film, Until Then (2023), is a coming-of-age drama that became the first Philippines-Netherlands co-production chosen by 3LAB, a talent program from the Dutch television channel NPO3. His apprenticeship at Rotterdam’s Rauwkost Film broadened his cinematic skills, making him a versatile filmmaker.
