Michael Jackson, a journalist and critic, gained fame for his influential work on beer and whisky. His book "The World Guide To Beer" shaped the modern theory of beer styles. He hosted the TV series "The Beer Hunter" and popularized brewing culture in North America. Jackson was honoured for his contribution to Belgian beers and introduced his own beer glassware. As a whisky reviewer, his book "The Malt Whisky Companion" had a significant impact. Jackson battled Parkinson's disease and diabetes before passing away from a heart attack at the age of 65. He left behind a long-term partner and their family.
