Chatchai Wisetsuvarnabhumi, or more popularly known by his pen name "Phanom Thian", was one of Thailand's most famous novelists and national artist branch of Literature for the year 1997

Born in Pattani Province, he was the youngest son of Khun Wiset Suvarnabhumi and Mrs. Sa-at Rattanakul. Mr Phanom began writing his first novel when he was in high school Suankularb Wittayalai School. The title of his first book was “Hao Dong”, in the year of 1941.

Besides writing novels, Chatchai was also a columnist writing articles on firearms in some newspapers and magazines as well. For his column articles, he used the pen name "Kong Surakan".
