Miguel Castro

Miguel Castro Grimberg, engineer and filmmaker, was born in Santiago de Chile on

October 7, 1928. Within the framework of one of the University Film contests, he generated

one of his first short films, one of the best known, titled Avenida 18 de julio

(1951). His filmography is made up of the following titles: Holiday (1951), Brief

history (1952), It was once... (1953), Cariri (1953), Images (1955), Notes for a

final (1955), The yellow stripe (1962)17. He made a film for Cine Universitario, the

which they would later title as Ay, Uruguay. The tape was confiscated during the

dictatorship and today, although remains of the film were recovered, the film has not been found

original18. Miguel Castro was forced to return to Chile during the Uruguayan dictatorship

1973. He returned four years after the end of the de facto government and died shortly

some time later, on December 27, 1989, in Montevideo.
