Nikos Kanakis

February 2, 1944 — Athens, Greece

Nikos Kanakis studied cinema at the LONDON FILM SCHOOL. In 1970 he started his Greek career as an editor and assistant director in short and feature films. Then from 1975 he directs documentaries himself and edits documentaries. In 1981-82 he directs a special series, about 40 documentaries, with the general title "Greece of the 5 Oceans". In 1985 he directs, produces and edits the movie "THE NECKLACE". In 1987 he directed and produced the documentary "MARKOS VAMVAKARIS". In 1990 he directs and produces the television series "I WANT TO KNOW". In 1994 he directed the feature film "WINDOW TO THE WEST". Since 1995 he edited and produced Greek cinema films and 5 international co-productions, with Cyprus, Bulgaria and Turkey. In total he edited almost 100 short and feature films. For 15 consecutive years, he taught film theory and editing at the "LYKOURGOS STAVRAKOS" Film School.
