Marquette Jones’ journey began in her hometown Youngstown, Ohio. Before becoming a filmmaker, she was an attorney in Oakland, California. She is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, holding a Juris Doctorate in Law and an alumna of New York University’s graduate film program. With several award-winning short films under her belt as a director and producer, her latest directing effort is the edgy comedy Forgiving Chris Brown. Marquette’s work has appeared in numerous film festivals and television channels. Her work have been featured on PBS, Showtime, Aspire TV, BET, IFC, KweliTV to name a few. This includes Round on Both Sides, Heroes Wanted and Streets 2 Suites. As a producer, her credits include Spoonful of Sugar, Adventures of Supern*gger, and Jackie. She has also directed and produced several commercial spots, which led to the coveted Telly Award and Aurora Award. Her past awards include Broad Humor Film Festival’s Best Cinematography Award and HollyShorts’ Audience Choice Award for Forgiving Chris Brown, New York University’s Warner Bros. Production Award, Panasonic ‘s “P2 for a Cause” Grand Prize Winner, Woods Hole Film Festival, Best Short Screenplay Winner, ProMotion Pictures / Heineken Branded Entertainment Shorts Competition Winner, Reel Sisters Film Festival Best Narrative Short, and First Run Festival’s Producing Award. When she is not busy writing, producing, or directing, Marquette indulges her obsession with color through her ever-growing nail polish collection.
