Yan Giroux

The artistic path of Yan Giroux began in contemporary poetry. Ever since, his work draws its inspiration from detailed observation of the world. Be it in documentary or fiction, Yan Giroux directs impressionistic films that privilege the cinematic experience. His films are deliberately paced while infused with the symbols present in the landscapes surrounding his characters. Amongst his principal works are: Cubanos, a feature length documentary film about Cuban identity (presented at the Boston Latino International Film Festival, the Detroit International Documentary Festival, the AFIA Film Festival and many others); Elegant, a feature length documentary that plunges us into the decadent life of an Independent music group (The New cinema Festival of Montreal); I need to talk to my father, a short film co-directed with Mathieu Jacques; Synchro, a short film created for the Montreal Biennale in 2009, and Surveillant, his most recent work, which is currently starting its festival run.
