On the 16th of July, 1950, a minor hustler named Otto Blankenstein was arrested for violating Paragraph 175, a law that made homosexual acts between males a crime. In order to avoid prison Otto Blankenstein gave away the names of his clients. This led to a wave of arrests lasting for 10 months. During that time more than 200 gay men had to stand trial.
